Govt Proposes Mandatory Labelling for AI Content
In a big move to fight misinformation, the Indian government has proposed new amendments to the IT rules. The main idea? To make it compulsory for platforms to label content that has been generated by Artificial Intelligence. This means if you're seeing an image, video, or even audio that's been cooked up by an AI, it will have to be clearly identified as such. A senior official from Meta recently mentioned that India is the largest market for Meta AI usage, and OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, also noted that India could soon become their biggest market globally. This proposal is a massive step towards bringing more transparency and accountability to the digital space, especially with deepfakes and AI-generated media becoming so common.
